Week 11

My first video shoot is tomorrow, I shall be taking pictures of me recording, showing the settings and the use of technology which I am using and will be uploading these on to my blog. I will be bringing both props and costumes to the set for the actor in order for my video to look the most effective it can.

Magazine Advert Draft

This is my Magazine Draft. I am also going to have to add a photograph to this once I have taken and edited it. I plan to have my lead singer standing against this black background, looking down with a rose in her hand. There will be a spotlight on her, for light effects. Or her sitting on the floor with rose petals all around her. This is to tie in with the romance/heartbreak scenario of the album and the song which I am using.

Digi-pak Draft

Here are my Digi-pak drafts. I am going to need to add images to these digi-paks once I have taken and edited them. For the mean time this is the idea that I have for the front and back of my Digi-pak.

For the front cover of my digi-pak, I plan to edit various photographs and make them small, so I can fit a number of pictures into the heart.

For the back cover of my digi-pak, I plan to put a close-up of Beckie's face in the heart shape, with the track listings, websites and other details at the at the bottom of the digi-pak against the red background.

Week 10

With making the Animatic, I can start to film my Music Video. I am going to get in touch with the actors and finalize a date for me to do my shoot with them. Then I can start editing the video. In the mean time, I will get started on designing my digi-pak.

Target Audience

Target Audience

The target audience I am aiming at would enjoy a heavy bass, and are more than likely to go out clubbing and raving. The song I am using attracts both males and females and is a more modern genre of music, Dubstep.

Song Lyrics Analysis

First Draft of Digipack

done, but needs to be scanned in. will do that today.

Week 9

I now have a very clear idea of what I want my Music Video to look like and everything I want in it. After having done my props, costume and location research, I now have a better understanding of how this is going to work and how much effort I will have to put in to this in order to successfully create the ideas in my head. I am going to upload the designs for the digi-packs which I have sketched soon, this will show what kind of ideas I have for the front and back cover of the CD.

Locations

Costumes

This is my mood board for the different costumes I am thinking of using. The first, is for the scene in the hospital, where I want my actor to either be wearing a hospital gown or a dressing gown, both will tie in well with the hospital theme. The second section of the mood board is for when the actor is against the green screen, I have chosen quite a dark and gloomy outfit to tie in with the emotions she will be expressing throughout the song. The third section of the mood board is for the outside shots, I want my actors to be dressed casual and prepared for the cold weather. The fourth section to my mood board, is for the scene when the girls are dancing around the male actor... they will need to be looking sexy, so I have chosen for them to wear sexy clothes such as heels and show some skin. Lastly, the male actor can be dressed in casual clothes through all of the scenes, so I have chosen for him to wear chinos a coat and some boat shoes.

Props

This is my moodboard for the props I am thinking of using in my Music Video. I am using props related to the season because it is likely to be cold and/or wet when I'm filming outside, so I'm thinking it would seem real to life if the actors have such props as hot chocolates and umbrellas. I am going to use a mobile or camera in the Music Video, which will be used to take pictures of the couple, which will then be printed out and used by Beckie to remind her of what they had and shared. I'm thinking Ivan can bring Beckie something to show he does care about her e.g. flowers or chocolates. Also, I want to use a heart monitor as the song I am using is called heartbeat so I think it would be good to include a heart monitor which will slow down/stop when the truth finally comes out about the cheating and she cannot take any more pain.

Week 8

I have now created a storyboard for my Music Video which means I have a clear idea of what shots are going to be used and the props/costumes I want to use. The next step I shall be taking is to create a props and costumes presentation and also a locations one, as from my story board, I know where I am going to shoot, and what the performers are going to wear in the different shots.

Story Board

This is my storyboard showing the different types of shots I will be using, where in the song they will appear and where they will be shot. This gives me a clear idea of what I will do when shooting my actual Music Video and means I am able to visualise my ideas.

Week 7

I have been looking in to and designing potential DigiPacks which I will upload on to blogger for you to see. The title of the song I have chosen is called Heartbeat, so I have based the front cover of my potential digipack on the theme “heartbeat”. When designing a DigiPack, there were certain key features I had to look at which are the conceptual, promotional, artistic and technical features of what I was designing. I had to make sure my DigiPack would promote my artist and the music and that the cover was artistic and creative.

Week 6

I have now been thinking about who else I could have in my Music Video, to play the roles needed of the evil girls and the male, who the song is about. I have a few ideas of what I want included in my video, for example at certain points throughout the chorus I am going to have the lyrics flashing, I also want the girls to have a specific dance routine, which I will be looking in to at a later date. I have ideas about what I want to do with the lighting, using it in a way which will attract and interest the viewers.

Week 5

I have now chosen which song I will be using for my Music Video, and I also have ideas for my digi-pack. The song I have chosen is by Nneka and it is called Heartbeat, I will be using the remixed version by Chase and Status, which means the song is faster and has a different beat in the background. I am thinking of using lyrics in my Music Video for the chorus, to give a kind of karaoke effect and to make the lyrics familiar as the chorus is repeated quite a lot in the song. I am planning to use green screen, filter colour effects and special effects quite a lot in my video, I think these all tie in with the music, as the music is quite strange and modern, with the Dubstep theme.

Thursday 15 September 2011

Project Proposal

I am going to create a Music Video to the Chase and Status remix of “Heartbeat”, which will be aimed more towards the female gender, due to the fact that the original singer is female and the song is her expressing her feelings of how she cannot take him anymore, he’s hurting her too much, females can relate to this if they have been involved in a break up. I have chosen to use this song for my Music Video as it is very unique, emotive, upbeat and repetitive.
My audience will be fans of either the original singer “Nneka” or the creators of the remixed version which I am using, a well known music production duo, “Chase and Status” whom together create and edit songs to give them a dubstep feel. “Heartbeat” is a mixture of dubstep and drum and bass. The song is about Nneka expressing her feelings saying how she cannot take the pain anymore, the male figure in her life is treating her bad, her lyrics “Can you see that I am human, I am breathing, but you don’t give a damn” support this view, as she’s saying he isn’t worthy of her existence. Her chorus constantly repeats and creates emphasis on the specific line “Can you see the pain you’re causing” which is powerful because it reflects on her whole song and view about being in pain.
The main feature of my Music Video is the lead singer, who will be in the whole video and at some times will be alongside some others, ensuring that the main focus of the song is the lead singer. There will be someone to play the male, and also some extras which will be the girls he’s hurting her with. My Music Video will contain the same features and conventions as any other Music Video such as using green screen for parts of my video in order to add effects to the video, and also filming in other locations for the realism.
Music Videos which I think may be similar to mine are “Rihanna- Unfaithful” and “Cheryl Cole ft Will.I.Am- Heartbreaker” this is due to the wide range of lighting, locations and camera shots. Also, another way in which my video will be like “Heartbreaker” is that I want to use a dance routine, with all three of the extra girls, and the male actor.
I am planning to use various outfits for my lead singer. The first will be quite dark and gloomy clothes, I’m thinking long grey socks, a grey dress and black cardigan, I want to use these as my first shot will show her in a corner singing into the camera, I want her make-up to be smeared and untidy, which will all come together to play a part in showing that she is depressed and in pain. I may shoot this in black and white, but I will have to decide which looks better on the actual day of filming. Another location which I am using, will be in a hospital, using the hospital bed, so here, I want my lead singer to be in a patient gown in order to play the role of a patient. Also, I want to include the heart monitor and include the noise of the heartbeats at the start, to reflect the title of the song. On location shots, the characters can be dressed in casual clothing, but when they are doing the dance routine, I want them to be dressed sophisticated and attractive.
I understand that I am relying heavily on my lead singer; therefore I will have to consider and anticipate problems which may occur. One problem which may occur is that several factors may mean that my lead singer is unable to shoot, e.g. illness, other matters come up meaning she cannot shoot, to overcome this problem, I will need to set specific dates and times of when I wish to record or rehearse.

Week 4

It is week 4 and I have carried out a screen test, which is basically a recording of the person that I wish to film in my final Music Video. She has to mime to the practise song and be confident and natural when acting/performing. I have posted the recording on my blog.

Music Video Equipment

Visual Switcher- this device allows you to flick between different cameras, this is particularly useful during live performances.

Handheld camera- includes an attached microphone, this device has HD capabilities, meaning can record in high definition.

The crane- this device is used to manipulate the position of the camera, meaning the camera is capable of high and low angles, also helps with the steadiness of movements and sweeps often used in Music Videos.

HD Handheld Camera- this camera is capable of shooting in low-lighting sets.

Fill light- this is used to manipulate the background colour of your footage.

The autocue- this device mirrors the text from the lower screen, which means that performers can be assisted with the lyrics of the song if they need it.

Week 1

I carried out some research into existing Music Videos, analysing the shots used, outfits, colours, greenscreen, etc.
Three videos which stand out for me are:

Rihanna- Unfaithful
In this Music Video i like the slow intro, and as the music gets faster, it gets louder and the cuts from each shot is speeding up too. Rihannas different locations are a good idea, something which i would like to do for mine maybe. The fact she uses the outside, white outfits etc when she is with her current boyfriend, and she is indoors, in a dark room, with black outfits suggest that with this guy she is having an affair with, there are secrets which are not yet out in the open, which is what the song is about.

Eminem- Stan
I like the way the characters and the story is introduced through a letter. The settings of the video are simple, yet effective, e.g eminem posters all around the room, makes "Stan" out to be a stalker. Also, the idea that the artist singing is not actually the artist moving their lips in the video. I like the mirror effect, where he is looking in the mirror, and not seeing his own reflection but someone elses.

Nicki Minaj- Superbass
Although the song is annoying, i like the bright colours and the use of various outfits and hairstyles which are used. The use of greenscreen does not look plain or dull and zoom is used as well as long shots. Also, I believe that this video would not be half as successful, without Nicki, as she is charismatic, attractive and loves role play.  I think that the scene with her and the dancers in the same outfits, just with different colours were very clever as they were all doing the same moves, it is a simple yet effective method to engage the viewer. Lastly, the UV light effect is very effective, with the illuminous make up, simple yet effective ways to engage the viewer, and offering something that not every Music Video does.
