Week 1

I carried out some research into existing Music Videos, analysing the shots used, outfits, colours, greenscreen, etc.
Three videos which stand out for me are:

Rihanna- Unfaithful
In this Music Video i like the slow intro, and as the music gets faster, it gets louder and the cuts from each shot is speeding up too. Rihannas different locations are a good idea, something which i would like to do for mine maybe. The fact she uses the outside, white outfits etc when she is with her current boyfriend, and she is indoors, in a dark room, with black outfits suggest that with this guy she is having an affair with, there are secrets which are not yet out in the open, which is what the song is about.

Eminem- Stan
I like the way the characters and the story is introduced through a letter. The settings of the video are simple, yet effective, e.g eminem posters all around the room, makes "Stan" out to be a stalker. Also, the idea that the artist singing is not actually the artist moving their lips in the video. I like the mirror effect, where he is looking in the mirror, and not seeing his own reflection but someone elses.

Nicki Minaj- Superbass
Although the song is annoying, i like the bright colours and the use of various outfits and hairstyles which are used. The use of greenscreen does not look plain or dull and zoom is used as well as long shots. Also, I believe that this video would not be half as successful, without Nicki, as she is charismatic, attractive and loves role play.  I think that the scene with her and the dancers in the same outfits, just with different colours were very clever as they were all doing the same moves, it is a simple yet effective method to engage the viewer. Lastly, the UV light effect is very effective, with the illuminous make up, simple yet effective ways to engage the viewer, and offering something that not every Music Video does.
