I am going to create a Music Video to the Chase and Status remix of “Heartbeat”, which will be aimed more towards the female gender, due to the fact that the original singer is female and the song is her expressing her feelings of how she cannot take him anymore, he’s hurting her too much, females can relate to this if they have been involved in a break up. I have chosen to use this song for my Music Video as it is very unique, emotive, upbeat and repetitive.
My audience will be fans of either the original singer “Nneka” or the creators of the remixed version which I am using, a well known music production duo, “Chase and Status” whom together create and edit songs to give them a dubstep feel. “Heartbeat” is a mixture of dubstep and drum and bass. The song is about Nneka expressing her feelings saying how she cannot take the pain anymore, the male figure in her life is treating her bad, her lyrics “Can you see that I am human, I am breathing, but you don’t give a damn” support this view, as she’s saying he isn’t worthy of her existence. Her chorus constantly repeats and creates emphasis on the specific line “Can you see the pain you’re causing” which is powerful because it reflects on her whole song and view about being in pain.
The main feature of my Music Video is the lead singer, who will be in the whole video and at some times will be alongside some others, ensuring that the main focus of the song is the lead singer. There will be someone to play the male, and also some extras which will be the girls he’s hurting her with. My Music Video will contain the same features and conventions as any other Music Video such as using green screen for parts of my video in order to add effects to the video, and also filming in other locations for the realism.
Music Videos which I think may be similar to mine are “Rihanna- Unfaithful” and “Cheryl Cole ft Will.I.Am- Heartbreaker” this is due to the wide range of lighting, locations and camera shots. Also, another way in which my video will be like “Heartbreaker” is that I want to use a dance routine, with all three of the extra girls, and the male actor.
I am planning to use various outfits for my lead singer. The first will be quite dark and gloomy clothes, I’m thinking long grey socks, a grey dress and black cardigan, I want to use these as my first shot will show her in a corner singing into the camera, I want her make-up to be smeared and untidy, which will all come together to play a part in showing that she is depressed and in pain. I may shoot this in black and white, but I will have to decide which looks better on the actual day of filming. Another location which I am using, will be in a hospital, using the hospital bed, so here, I want my lead singer to be in a patient gown in order to play the role of a patient. Also, I want to include the heart monitor and include the noise of the heartbeats at the start, to reflect the title of the song. On location shots, the characters can be dressed in casual clothing, but when they are doing the dance routine, I want them to be dressed sophisticated and attractive.
I understand that I am relying heavily on my lead singer; therefore I will have to consider and anticipate problems which may occur. One problem which may occur is that several factors may mean that my lead singer is unable to shoot, e.g. illness, other matters come up meaning she cannot shoot, to overcome this problem, I will need to set specific dates and times of when I wish to record or rehearse.
